The Holford GI Low Diet Review

February 22, 2009 by Sherry Ingram · Leave a Comment

This fat burner system was formulated by nutritionist Patrick Holford. It bases its plan on the Glycemic Load of each kind of food. The Glycemic Load is the amount of blood sugar contained in the food and by controlling the level of blood sugar one can achieve weight loss.

The diet plan consists of a website that provides tips on losing weight, remaining energetic and over-all good health. There is also an automated glycemic level counter where you can measure the GL of the food you are eating. Also, the site provides for a substitute sweetener which uses xylitol, a naturally occurring sweetener with low GL ratings. This helps in lowering the overall GL rate to help your body in maintaining the proper amount of blood sugar in the system.

The science of glycemic level dieting is still largely uncharted. But the gain from the diet helps those with diabetes and hypertension by controlling the level of insulin in their bodies. As to the weight loss, the strict determination of GL rates as the right foods may tend to overlook some necessities such as monosaturated fat and protein. This is where a doctor may help in your concerns and ensure that you are healthy as you undertake this well meaning diet plan.

DASH Diet Review

One thinks this is all about exercise but in reality DASH is an acronym for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. It is a multi-faceted program which includes recommended diet and exercise for those suffering from high blood pressure.

The difference with this diet plan is that it has seals of approval from the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association. It also uses the pyramid food plan espoused by the Department of Agriculture.

The diet is very well rounded, with fruits and vegetables being staples to the diet, in addition to low fat food, and non-fat dairy items. With this, you limit the cholesterol intake, limit the amount of sugar in the diet and increase fibber intake. This is a tall order to one used to high fat food but it is a must to take when you have abnormally high blood pressure. There is a transition plan included and it was designed to avoid hypertension rather than a weight loss diet. There is a variation to the DASH diet with a low calorie plan for those who wish to seek weight in a healthy manner.

Another Diet Pill Review – Water Pills

February 15, 2009 by Sherry Ingram · Leave a Comment

Water pills are diuretics that trigger the kidneys to eliminate sodium from its system the soonest possible time. The elimination of sodium results in the excretion of water as waste products. Also, some water pills limit the body’s ability to absorb sodium, which is removed from the body as waste and thus water is eliminated from the body,

The real purpose of water pills is the management of hypertension. By triggering the excretion of water as waste, there is overall blood volume in the body. By lowering the blood volume, the blood pressure is decreased. With the excretion of water is the removal of toxins in the body.

The use of water pills can produce very dangerous side effects to the body. Since it removes water, the water need of the body is compromised. Also, the higher excretion of water removes important nutrients that could have been absorbed had there been more time to process the water. The weight lost is actually water weight and the diuretic effect of the pill would lower blood pressure tremendously thus affect the over-all circulation of the blood in the body. So before taking the water pill, it would be best to have a consult with your physician as having the water pills ingredients in the system too much for too long may result in many grave consequences.
